Adele Clegg – Better Relationship with Food
Adele joined Omni Studios about 2 years ago. We caught up with her to see what she had to say about her Omni experience. We asked Adele;
Why did you start coming to Omni Studios?
I’d reached a point in my life where I wasn’t in a good place. I was quite depressed, always working, and when I wasn’t working, I was on the sofa. I realised I had to do something to change my life.
How have you benefitted from Omni Studios in the time you’ve been here?
Oh my goodness, so many ways! I’m stronger, fitter and much healthier. I’ve got a really different mind-set and a completely different outlook on life.
Would you say it’s helped you with your work life and confidence?
It’s definitely helped me with my work – life balance, my confidence and general outlook on life.
What would you say to someone who was in the same position as you before you started at Omni Studios?
I would say, absolutely give it a try! I remember Emmaclaire saying when I started, that the benefits you get are endless. Many you don’t even think about, and I’ve definitely seen those benefits in terms of who I am as a person, my outlook on life and how I tackle things. The kind of things I’m doing here now, in terms of the weights I’m lifting, I never believed in a million years that I could actually do it, but I can! I’m no different from anyone else, so what I’ve achieved, absolutely anybody could. If you’re worries about starting something, it’s always scary starting something new, but you never know until you try. Then when you do, the results are absolutely amazing!
So what results have you got body-wise?
I never had any muscle tone whatsoever. I was thin, but flabby, whereas now I can see the muscle definition, the muscle tone, I can see how much strength I’ve got in my muscles. I used to have quite a strange outlook on the way I felt about myself. I used to think it was fantastic when I looked at myself and I saw bone. When I was thin and skinny and bony, I thought that was a good thing. Now I see muscle tone, definition, being strong, and I see that as much more important. So it’s completely changed my outlook and my thoughts on myself.
Did you try other places before Omni Studios?
Absolutely! I think I must have tried every gym in Northampton. I’d go to a different gym, I’d get lured in by their promises, ‘you’ll achieve this and get these results’, but when I got there I found it just didn’t work. I’d be doing the same things over and over again, I’d get bored and there’d be no progression. I wouldn’t get what I wanted, so I’d try somewhere else. I kept doing that, going from place to place, until I ended up here, then it was completely different.
You mentioned earlier how your view on your body image has changed. What about your relationship with food?
I had a very unhealthy relationship with food. I suffered a lot with eating disorders in my younger years and although I’ve moved on from that, I still didn’t have a brilliant relationship with food, or even with myself and my own body image. Being here has really helped me to work on that. Probably for the first time ever, I’m eating properly, I’m a healthy weight and I’m actually really glad about that.
You’ve been through quite a journey, how do you stay so positive?
The answer is, I’m not sure! I think I’ve learnt to enjoy life, to enjoy what’s good about life and I really enjoy exercising. I get a real buzz from it. I love the feeling of it, the progression, the achievement and how far I’ve come from where I started, I absolutely love that!
